President Rouhani , Speakers of 5 Muslim States Meet in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in separate meetings with parliament speakers from 5 Muslim countries on Wednesday, called for closer regional and international cooperation among the Islamic countries.

President Rouhani made the comments in his meetings with the top parliamentarians from Syria, Palestine, Algeria, Sudan and Qatar. 

The five top lawmaker are in Tehran to attend the 9th meeting of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU).

During the meeting held in Tehran Wednesday, President Rouhani said that increased cooperation among the Islamic states would also contribute to Islamic unity and solidarity.

On the opening day of the IIPU, too, the Iranian president had met with nine parliament Muslim speakers.

Parliamentary delegations from more than 40 countries are attending the ninth IIPU conference, which was officially launched in a ceremony on Tuesday.

The IIPU was established in 1999 based on an initiative by Iran and is the parliamentary branch of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

It seeks to strengthen the parliamentary cooperation among the Islamic countries in order to solve the challenges with which the Islamic world is entanged.
