Deaths in Shooting at Turkey Institute

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - At least seven people have been shot dead and one injured at a Turkish Statistics Institute office in the eastern province of Kars, state media reported.

TRT Haber TV channel said on Wednesday that a former TUIK employee who was sacked was responsible for the attack. The individual shot himself after killing six people.

Al Jazeera's correspondent said it was an act of revenge by a disgruntled former employee who was deprived of severance benefits.

"It doesn’t seem that there are any political intentions. Kars is a very calm area and has no history of political unrest," Al Jazeera's Omar Khashram said, reporting from Ankara, the capital.
