Iranian Official Confirms Death of Kidnapped Guard
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian provincial official confirmed earlier reports on the death of one of the five border guards kidnapped by a terrorist group in Pakistan.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Monday, deputy governor-general of Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, Ali Asghar Mirshekari, confirmed that Jamshid Danaeifar, one of the kidnapped soldiers has been killed by the terrorist group.
“The report on the martyrdom of Jamshid Danaeifar has been confirmed,” Mirshekari stated.
The so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the abductions.
In a Sunday Tweet, Jaish-ul-Adl terrorists claimed that they had killed one of the abductees, called Jamshid Danaeifar.
Earlier, an Iranian interior ministry official had rejected reports on the death of one of the Iranian border guards.
Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs Ali Abdollahi on Monday had dismissed reports that one of the five Iranian border guards, kidnapped in Pakistan, has been killed.
The five Iranian border guards were kidnapped in Jakigour region in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan on February 6 and taken to Pakistan.
The so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the abductions.
Abdollahi had earlier regretted that Islamabad has failed to fully control its borders with Iran, stressing that the Pakistani government has commitments based on the joint security agreement signed by the two countries and should fulfill those commitments.
In February 2013, Tehran and Islamabad signed a security agreement which requires both sides to take strict measures to combat terrorism and human and drug trafficking.
