FM Welcomes Expansion of Iran's Ties with New Zealand
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s foreign minister said there are suitable grounds for the enhancement of relations between the Islamic Republic and New Zealand, particularly trade ties.
In a Monday meeting with New Zealand new ambassador to Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that Tehran and Wellington can strengthen their bilateral relations in all fields, the economic and trade areas in particular.
Receiving a copy of the New Zealand envoy’s credentials, Zarif expressed the hope that the two nations could further develop their relations during the new ambassador’s tenure in Iran.
The New Zealand ambassador, for his part, congratulated Foreign Minister Zarif on the new Iranian year and Nowruz, and provided a brief explanation of his country’s foreign policy and international position.
He also pledged to do his utmost to expand ties between Iran and New Zealand.
Earlier in February, Iran’s Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi called for continued efforts for the development of relations between Iran and New Zealand.
Speaking in a meeting with outgoing ambassador of New Zealand to Iran Bryan Sanders at the time, Sarmadi highlighted the long-time good ties between Tehran and Wellington.
He said the new atmosphere resulting from the Iranian government’s foreign policy approach and Iran’s huge domestic capacities provide a good opportunity for the two countries to extend relations and cooperation, particularly in economic and trade fields.
