Iran Ready to Mount Permanent High-Tech Exhibition in Turkmenistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister expressed the country’s preparedness to set up a permanent exhibition of advanced, modern technologies in Turkmenistan.

In a meeting with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rasit Meredov in Ashgabat on Monday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour said the Islamic Republic is ready to establish the permanent exhibition of advanced technologies in Turkmenistan’s capital.

Rahimpour also underlined that Tehran and Ashgabat can strengthen their ties in the political, economic and cultural fields.

Meredov, for his part, called for the enhancement of bilateral relations between the two nations in a whole host of fields.

Earlier on February 15, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had announced in a meeting with Meredov that the Islamic Republic is prepared to boost exports to its northeastern neighbor, saying Tehran can provide Ashgabat with the engineering and technical expertise.

“Iran is ready to export goods as well as technical and engineering services to the regional countries, particularly Turkmenistan,” Rouhani said at the time.

Also in January, Iran and Turkmenistan, in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two countries' foreign ministers, agreed to boost mutual cooperation in different economic fields.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Turkmen counterpart signed the 48-article MoU at the 13th meeting of Iran-Turkmenistan joint economic cooperation commission held in Ashgabat.

Tehran has the largest volume of trade exchange with Turkmenistan after Russia.

The value of trade between Iran and Turkmenistan is estimated to be around $5bln a year, and Iranian and Turkmen officials have expressed the hope that the figure could reach $10bln in the coming years.
