Iranian MPs Introduce Bill in Reprisal for EP’s Resolution

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A motion for a resolution on “the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategy to counter the European Parliament’s resolution”, signed by 101 lawmakers, was submitted to the Iranian parliament’s presiding board this morning.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Sunday, member of the Iranian parliament, Hossein Haji Deligani, unveiled the plan to put forward the bill, dubbed “the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategy to counter the European Parliament’s resolution”.

He said 101 legislators have signed the motion for adoption of a double-urgency bill, adding that it has been delivered to the presiding board for further consideration.

The move is indeed a retaliation for the European body’s recent provocative resolution on Tehran.

On Thursday, April 3, the European Parliament (EP) passed a resolution expressing grave concern over the human rights situation in Iran and the “continued, systemic violation of fundamental rights” in the country, and called on the members of the European Union to “mainstream human rights in all of its relations with Iran.”
