Iran, Pakistan Kick Off Joint Naval Drill
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Navy started joint naval exercises with a Pakistani fleet of warships in waters off the eastern coast of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
According to Rear Admiral Azad, commander of the Iranian Navy's 1st naval zone, two units from the country's naval forces have taken part in the drill together with the Pakistani fleet of warships.
The joint exercise will come to an end today, he noted.
The Pakistani fleet arrived in Iran's southern port city of Bandar Abbas on April 5.
It is comprised of a missile-launcher warship, a logistic one as well as an advanced submarine.
A series of official meetings between senior officers representing the two countries’ navies were held during the Pakistani fleet’s stay in Iran.
Iran and Pakistan are holding the joint drill with the aim of conveying the message of peace and friendship and in line with the strategy to enhance military ties between the two countries.
In the meantime, Iran and Oman also kicked off a joint rescue and relief drill in waters off the Muscat's Sultan Qaboos port on Monday. According to reports, the drill would extend over three days.
Iran and Oman have so far held several naval relief and rescue drills aimed at enhancing readiness for providing relief services and rescue operations and improving the level of regional cooperation and exchanging experience
