Iranian Commander Underscores Importance of Contingency Plans to Counter Crises
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran should draw up a comprehensive contingency plan that would involve more coordination between the military and civilian sectors to counter potential natural disasters and crises, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) stressed.
“A systematic framework should be defined to coordinate the military and civilian sectors to handle and control the crises,” Lieutenant Commander of the IRGC Navy General Ali Reza Tangsiri said.
He made the comments at a conference dubbed “Coordinated Response to Regional Crises” which was held in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday.
General Tangsiri also emphasized the need for better teamwork and organized plans to handle a range of contingencies, saying the establishment of an “integrated and reliable communication network” is among the issues which must top the agenda of crisis management coordination council.
The IRGC commander also highlighted the significant role of civil defense strategies in the handling of the crises and raising people’s awareness of the natural disasters.
In recent years, Iranian officials have attached a great deal of importance on civil defense tactics to counter a whole host of threats.
Earlier in October 2013, Head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization General Gholam Reza Jalali said three bases tasked with confronting a broad range of threats have been in place in the last two years, adding that a fourth base is due to come into service in the future.
He had announced that the three defense bases are working under the Civil Defense Organization’s supervision to counter cyber, radiation and biological-chemical threats.
“A fourth base, titled economic defense base, is soon to be established,” Jalali said.
