Iran Determined to Link Railroad to Georgia via Azerbaijan: President Rouhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday said the country firmly seeks to connect its railway line to that of Georgia via the Republic of Azerbaijan.

“Iran attaches great importance to connecting (its railroad) to the Black Sea ports, including Batumi. We are determined to link our railway line to Georgia via Azerbaijan,” the president said while receiving Loseb Chakhvashvili the new ambassador of Georgia to Iran.

He referred to the Tehran, Baku and Tbilisi trilateral relations and stated that the plan for joining the railroads will be in the interest of the entire region.

Rouhani further hoped that the new Georgian ambassador would work to expand relations between Iran and Georgia in all fields.

He also underlined facilitating relations between the two countries’ academicians, merchants and private sector.

Chakhvashvili, who submitted his credentials to President Rouhani, said Tbilisi seeks to enhance ties with its neighboring countries.

The envoy hoped he will strengthen Georgia’s relations with Iran during his mission.
