In a meeting with Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova here in Tehran, Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Reza Faraji Dana denounced the sanctions imposed by the global bodies that have a negative impact on the progress of science and technology in the world.

“The UNESCO should prevent the imposition of sanctions that curb public access to the sciences, technology, training and education, and should show its seriousness in this regard,” Faraji Dana underlined.

He stressed that science is not confined to specific boundaries, and called on the UNESCO to step up efforts for ending the monopoly of its certain members over science and technology in the world.

Making a reference to the high rate of educated youth and academic activities in Iran, the minister emphasized the need for the enhancement of scientific cooperation between Tehran and the UNESCO.

Bokova, for her part, praised the Islamic Republic’s efforts to expand relations with the UNESCO, stressing that the global body believes in the equality of the entire cultures.

“I have come (to Iran) with the message that I would open up a new chapter in the expansion of relations between Iran and UNESCO,” she stated.
