Algeria Voices Support for Iran’s Nuclear Program

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Algerian People's National Assembly said his country has always backed Iran’s right to use nuclear energy program for peaceful purposes.

In a Wednesday meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Algiers, Mohammad Al-Arabi Weld Khalifa described the employment of peaceful nuclear technology as a right for the whole nations.

“Algeria has always supported such a right for Iran,” the Algerian parliament speaker noted.

Khalifa also praised Iran’s strong resistance to the sanctions imposed unilaterally by the West over its peaceful nuclear energy program. He pointed to the Islamic Republic’s  “mighty position” in the region and called for the further expansion of ties between Tehran and Algiers.

The visiting Iranian diplomat, for his part, commended Algeria for its backing for Tehran’s nuclear rights and hailed the growing bilateral ties between the two Muslim nations.

Zarif is in capital Algiers to attend the 17th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement. Heading a high-ranking delegation, the Iranian minister arrived in the African country on Tuesday to explain the Islamic Republic’s views on the international issues at the meeting.
