Iranian President Urges Muslim Unity

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday renewed call on the Muslim nations to set aside their differences and join hands to promote Islam.

Rouhani made the comments in a gathering of foreign guests in Tehran on Tuesday who have come to Iran to attend a commemorative service to mark the anniversary of passing away of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (PBUH).

Rouhani also underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue the path of Imam Khomeini without any wavering or fear, the Iranian president’s official website reported.

Imam Khomeini’s path was the fight against colonialism and foreign domination, the establishment of sovereignty of people and nations, and the judgment of God, the holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet, he added.

In this regard, all should join hands and unite to hoist the flag of Islam, President Rouhani insisted.

He stressed that Imam Khomeini inspired self-esteem and confidence in Muslims and showed that if we trust in God, we will be able to overcome all kinds of conspiracies.

Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, eleven days after he was taken to hospital for an operation to stop internal bleeding in May 1989.

With the passing away of Imam Khomeini, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei was elected the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution by Iran’s Assembly of Experts.
