Iran Raps "Brutal" Terrorist Attack on Mosul

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman on Tuesday slammed the terrorist assault on the Iraqi city of Mosul.

Marziyeh Afkham condemned the raid on Mosul by the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants, describing the attack as "brutal".

Armed fighters believed to be part of the ISIL seized Mosul, on Monday night.

Hundreds of rebels launched an assault on Mosul, 350km north of Baghdad, engaging in combat with troops and police, the officials said on Tuesday.

The Iranian spokeswoman further voiced concern over the trend of chain attacks by terrorists on different parts of Iraq, and express the hope that the Iraqi military, security forces and people would take a joint action to fight terrorism and restore security and peace in the regions invaded by the terrorists.

She also described the growing terrorist attacks in Iraq as a clear example of the trans-national danger of terrorism, adding that the universal threat of terrorism necessitates governments and international organizations to stand by Iraq in the current sensitive conditions.

Afkham also underlined the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the Iraqi government and people.
