Beitashour Too Excited for FIFA World Cup
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Steven (Mehrdad) Beitashour is so excited since his dream for playing at the FIFA World Cup is coming true.
“The World Cup is a dream comes true. I didn’t think it would happen to me, and it is happening. I cannot describe since I'm too excited,” Beitashour said.
The 27-year-old was called by Jurgen Klinsmann to the US national team ahead of its friendly against Mexico in August of 2012, but did not appear in the match. Afterward he was recalled for a friendly against Canada, but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
“I am very excited to be here. I am where I want to be. Klinsmann invited me to the US in 2011 but I would rather play for Iran football team,” he told GloboEsporte.com.
“I know that my situation is unusual, but for me just football is important. It's something I love that. When you talk about politics with me, I prefer to return to football. I just want to play football and have fun,” Vancouver Whitecaps right-back added.
