Daniel Davari Wants to Be Iran’s First-Choice Keeper

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran goalkeeper Daniel Davari said that he is going to be the first-choice goalie in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Iran coach Carlos Queiroz has not yet revealed who is Iran’s first-choice goalkeeper in the group stage.

Iran is in Group F along with Nigeria, Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Team Melli will play Nigeria on Monday, June 16, in its opener.

Carlos Queiroz’s men will face Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 21 and June 25, respectively.

“The coach will decide who is the first-choice keeper in the competition. I am not responsible for that and I just exercise and I will definitely make the effort to prove myself,” Davari told the Tasnim News Agency.

Anyhow, Iran’s success is important and it doesn’t matter who will wear the number one jersey. Team Melli has two other good keepers,” he said.

Asked if Iran could see itself advancing to next stage, Davari said, “Absolutely. Iran has a chance to qualify for the next stage. We can increase our chance of qualifying if we can defeat Nigeria. Then, we will see what happens,” the 26-year-old added.

Argentina is the favorite in the group and Iran will try to advance as the second team, Davari added.
