Uruguay Beats England in Group D
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Uruguay football team defeated England in Group D of the 2014 World Cup thanks to a brace from Luis Suarez.
In the match held in Sao Paulo on Thursday, Uruguay defeated England 2-1.
Uruguay striker Luis Suarez headed the ball past England goalkeeper Joe Hart in the 39th minute.
England equalized the match in the 75th minute, when Wayne Rooney found the back of the net after receiving a well-taken ball from Glen Johnson.
Ten minutes later, Uruguay keeper Fernando Muslera set up Suarez with a long ball and Liverpool striker lashed a shot past a helpless Hart.
Uruguay now has 3 points in Group D, along with Costa Rica and Italy, who face off on Friday in their second game.
Uruguay will face the Italians in the final group game on Tuesday in Natal. England, now all but mathematically eliminated, will see out its campaign against Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte.
