Nuclear Official: Iran Not to Accept Limitation to Research, Development

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) asserted that the country will never accede to any limitation to its research and development activities regarding its peaceful nuclear program.

Iran has explicitly declared in nuclear negotiations with world powers that “it cannot accept any limitation to the thoughts, ideas, innovation and invention in the nuclear field,” Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Tuesday.

He said the negotiating parties also seem to have acknowledged Iran’s right to continue research and development.

His comments came amid ongoing talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) which have gathered in Vienna since July 2 in a bid to hammer out a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s nuclear case.

The long-awaited accord is aimed at resolving the decade-long standoff on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

In a sign of Iran’s strong determination to keep in place its nuclear energy program, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Monday rejected the West's attempts to curb Tehran's nuclear activities, underscoring that research and development in the nuclear field is an issue that must be observed in the course of negotiations.
