Iran Censures Lack of Proper Action to Counter Terrorism in Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman blasted continued terrorist activities in Iraq, and said no considerable action has been taken to counter terrorism in the war-torn country.

"No collective move has been shaped in Iraq for confronting terrorism," Marziyeh Afkham said.

Speaking to reporters in her weekly press conference on Wednesday, the spokeswoman warned that "inaction can result in dangers."

She said terrorism should not be used as a tool for imposing political pressures on other sides, and called on the Iraqi political groups to avoid politically-tainted or double-standard attitude towards the danger posed by terrorism.

Afkham further said unity among Iraqi parties will guarantee the country's national interest.

In early June, following its large-scale offensives in Iraq, the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) seized control of most parts of Mosul, the second most populous city in Iraq, its surrounding Nineveh province. ISIL militants have been in control of Fallujah city since December.

The terrorists’ attacks reportedly forced more than half a million people in and around Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Province, to flee their homes.
They are said to have entered Iraq from neighboring Syria and Saudi Arabia to destabilize the Arab country.
