Iran President Felicitates Morocco on National Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message to king of Morocco on Tuesday felicitated the African country's National Day.

In his message to King of Morocco Mohammed VI, Rouhani congratulated the National Day of Morocco to the country’s King and Moroccan government and nation.

He also expressed the hope that the ties and cooperation between Iran and Morocco would expand bilaterally, regionally and internationally.

In February 2014, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said Iran and Morocco plan to reopen their embassies in Rabat and Tehran in the near future.

The decision followed discussions between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Moroccan counterpart.

Relations between Iran and Morocco were severed in 2009 following a series of disputes on regional issues.

In a sign of improving relations, the Moroccan foreign minister invited Zarif to attend the 20th meeting of the al-Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in January in Rabat.
