Iranian Showman Launches "Child for Child" Gaza Campaign

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Popular Iranian children TV show host has run “Child for Child” campaign to support the rights of oppressed Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip.

“Children all over the world wish a peaceful and comfortable life free of war for Gaza children and we want to realize such wish by running the campaign,” said Dariush Farziaei (known as Uncle Pourang in Iran).

Farziaei condemned Israeli atrocities against people of the Gaza Strip, adding that children’s beautiful world should not be tainted by political issues.

“Children should enjoy their childhood and be allowed to have a peaceful and happy life, but it does not happen in some parts of the globe,” expressed Farziaei.

Uncle Pourang further explained that the campaign is in its preliminary stages and the efforts are being concentrated to accelerate the process.

He added that the campaign is trying to win the support of different groups especially the artists, expressing that he is trying to globalize the campaign in order to unite all the world for restoring peace and security to the besieged enclave.

International calls for an end to the bloodshed intensified after shelling on Wednesday that killed 15 people sheltering in a UN-run school in Gaza's Jabalya refugee camp. It was the second time that the Israeli military targeted UN-run schools in less than a week. The schools are seen as the only shelters for the Palestinians living in the blockaded territory.

Israeli warplanes have been pounding numerous sites in the Gaza Strip since July 8, followed by a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian land ten days later.

So far, more than 1,600 Palestinians have been killed while almost 9,000 have been injured. Most of the casualties have been civilians, including a large number of women and children.
