Iran, Tanzania Ink MoU on Humanitarian Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Red Crescent Society of Iran and Tanzania’s Red Cross National Society signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people.

President of Tanzania’s Red Cross National Society George Francis Nangale said the MoU has been signed “with an eye to the future to offer more assistance to the needy.”

He made the comments in an address to a conference in the Iranian city of Shiraz, held to mark the 40th anniversary of the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO).

The African official also noted that Iran and Tanzania have already taken part in a host of joint activities in the humanitarian field.

Commenting on the recent Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip, Nangale said, “Tanzania’s Red Cross Society voices sympathy with people of Palestine and is distressed by death of a large number of innocent people.”

Tanzania condemns such a catastrophe in Gaza, he underlined.

In Gaza, more than a quarter of the impoverished enclave's 1.8 million residents have been displaced by a month of bloodshed by the Israeli forces.

On July 8, Israel launched air strikes on Gaza. After 10 days of bombardment of the enclave from the air and sea, the Israeli forces started a ground operation in densely populated territory.

Gaza officials say 1,834 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed, and as many as 3,000 Palestinian homes have been destroyed or damaged.
