Iran's Crude Steel Output Up 8.6%

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s total production of crude steel in the first four months of this Iranian year, which started on March 21, has increased by 8.6 percent, compared to the same period last year.

According to a report published by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Iranian public and private companies produced 5,582,962 metric tons of crude steel over the first four months of this year ( March 21-July 22).

Iran's crude steel production stood at 5,137,875 metric tons during the same period last year.

During the first four months of this year, 5,779,826 metric tons of various steel products, including rebar, coil steel, pipe, girders, wide sheets, hot-rolled steel and galvanized steel, were produced by the country's steel makers, showing a growth of 2.5 percent compared to the same period last year, the report added.

In the Iranian month of Khordad (May 22 – June 21), 1,290,082 metric tons of steel ingot and 1,389,066 tons of various steel products were produced in the country, according to the report.

Iran plans to raise its annual steel output to 55 million tons by 2015 as part of a major economic development plan.
