Iran Backs Political Efforts to Stop Israeli Attacks on Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif urged for political initiatives for an end to Tel Aviv’s aggression on the Gaza Strip.

“Iran supports any effort and political initiative to apply pressure on the Zionist regime to totally stop the criminal attacks and lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip,” Zarif said in a meeting with South African president’s special envoys in Tehran on Tuesday.

He stressed that there should be guarantee that Israel will launch no more attacks on Gaza.

Zarif further elaborated on Iran’s diplomatic efforts in its capacity as head of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to support Palestinians and underlined the need for continued cooperation among NAM member states to expedite and facilitate delivery of aid to the people of Gaza.

Iran’s top diplomat also lauded the stances of South Africa in support of the Palestinian people’s rights.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif warned against the perilous dimensions of terrorism and extremism in different parts of the world, including the Middle East and the African continent, stressing the only way to uproot this ominous phenomenon is concerted efforts and cooperation among world countries.

The South African envoys, for their part, conveyed the greetings of President Jacob Zuma and Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane to Iran’s president and foreign minister.

They praised Iran’s role in regional affairs and the country’s support for Palestine and called for more cooperation between Tehran and Pretoria as well as other NAM member states to facilitate aid delivery to Gaza and ensure a durable ceasefire in the coastal strip.
