Israel to Blame for Gaza Ceasefire Collapse

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Palestinian officials blamed Israel for the collapse of a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as several Palestinians are killed during fresh Israeli attacks.

"The ceasefire has collapsed and Israel is responsible," Azzam al-Ahmed, the head of the Palestinian negotiating team in Cairo, said on Wednesday.

“We are leaving tomorrow, but we have not pulled out of negotiations," he stated, adding that the Palestinians were waiting for Israel’s response to their truce proposal.

"We will not come back (to Cairo) until Israel responds," Ahmed said.

Ahmed also said a peace agreement could have been reached, but it was Israel’s decision to make the talks fail, Press TV reported.

A Palestinian infant was killed along with two adults in Israeli airstrikes against the besieged Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

According to Hamas officials, despite the fact that a temporary truce was supposed to be in effect, there were at least 25 airstrikes across Gaza on Tuesday.

Israeli warplanes and tanks have been pounding the blockaded sliver since early July, inflicting heavy losses on the coastal enclave.

Nearly 2,020 people, mostly civilians, have lost their lives and some 10,200 have been injured despite pressure from the international community on the Tel Aviv regime to end aggression against Palestinians.

More than 400,000 Palestinian children are in immediate need of psychological help due to “catastrophic and tragic impact” of the Israeli war, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
