Benin FM Invites Iranian Firms to Invest in Energy Market
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Benin invited Iranian companies to invest in power generation in the West African country.
Addressing the 10th International Energy Conference here in the Iranian capital of Tehran, Nassirou Bako said the Republic of Benin has the capability to produce just 5 percent of its required electrical power and, therefore, needs investments in the field by countries like Iran.
He described energy market as one of the best investment opportunities in African countries.
Bako noted that Benin has already signed an agreement with Iran for production of 50 Megawatt of energy.
He said Porto-Novo intends to attract foreign investments (in energy production) in a bid to meet domestic demands for energy and later become an electricity exporter.
The two-day International Energy Conference is organized by the Iranian National Energy Committee, a member of the World Energy Council (WEC), which is an alliance of over 90 countries that provides information and resources on all aspects of energy.
WEC Secretary General Christoph Frei, Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian have attended the gathering.
The event aims to provide a forum for discussion on national and international accomplishments in the energy sector and related research activities, according to the official website for the conference.
