2014 FIBA World Cup: Iran Earns First Victory
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran basketball team picked up its first win in the 2014 FIBA World Cup on Wednesday.
The Iranian outfit defeated Egypt 88-73 at the Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada in Group A.
Mehmed Becirovic’s men started their campaign with a 90-60 loss against host Spain. Iran also lost to Brazil (79-50) and Serbia (83-70) respectively.
Egypt, appearing in this tournament after a 20-year absence, suffered heavy defeats against Serbia (64-85), Spain (54-91) and France (55-94).
Samad Nikkhah Bahrami led Iran’s scoring with 25 points while Egyptian Youssef Shousha scored 15 points.
Iran Team B defeated Egypt 65-62 in last month's William Jones Cup tournament in Taipei.
Iran will face France on Thursday.
