Iranian, Tajik Presidents Stress Expansion of Mutual Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon called for the further promotion of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

During a Wednesday meeting with his Tajik counterpart in Dushanbe, the visiting President Rouhani touched upon the age-old commonalities between the two countries, and emphasized the need to boost cooperation in all spheres, particularly in the area of economy.

“Iran, as a friendly country, has always sided with Tajikistan and wants further expansion of Tehran-Dushanbe ties in all fields,” he said.

The Iranian president also pointed to the two countries’ capacities to promote trade ties, saying that Iranian companies have strengthened mutual cooperation through their investment in Tajikistan.

Rahmon, for his part, welcomed Rouhani’s visit to Dushanbe and called for the further consolidation of relations.

"Undoubtedly, your ideas will be useful for the prosperity and development of our country," Rahmon underlined.

During Rouhani's visit to the Central Asian state, a number of agreements will be signed between Iran and Tajikistan.

Rouhani on Monday started a 5-day tour of Central Asia to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, where he will attend the 14th summit meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The SCO is a political, economic and military organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Mongolia are observer states of the SCO.
