Mexican Deputy FM in Tehran to Bolster Iran Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mexico’s Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Carlos de Icaza paid an official visit to Iran on Saturday for what he called strengthening bilateral ties with the Islamic Republic.

In a Saturday meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi in Tehran, the visiting Mexican described the purpose of his trip to Iran as enhancement of bilateral relations.

“Our common goal lies within the framework of peaceful coexistence among the nations and the international law,” de Icaza noted.

He also hailed Iran and Mexico as two countries with “historical and honorable background” which have provided substantial benefit to humanity.

The Iranian diplomat, for his part, voiced Iran's determination to enhance ties with Mexico and the other Caribbean nations given their potential and available capacities.

Takht Ravanchi also expressed optimism about expansion of ties between Tehran and Mexico City in light of their mutual interests.

The promotion of all-out cooperation with Latin American countries has been among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy over the past few years.
