“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers calm and continued national dialogues as being in the interests of the Yemeni nation and government,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a meeting with his Kuwaiti counterpart Sabah al-Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah in New York on Thursday.
His comments came after Yemen’s Houthis and government signed a deal on Sunday after protesters had taken control of government buildings and a state radio and TV station in capital Sana’a.
The agreement calls for the current government to rule in a caretaker role until a new administration is formed next month after consultations with all political parties.
Elsewhere in the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 69th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Iranian and Kuwaiti diplomats stressed the need for increased consultations between the two Muslim nations in a bid to strengthen Tehran-Kuwait City ties and regional convergence.
