Iran Says BBC’s Plot to Steal Archive Documents Foiled

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said on Sunday it has thwarted a plot by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to steal artistic, historical and cultural documents from the country's archive centers.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Intelligence Ministry explained that the theft plan was foiled by the Iranian intelligence agents following "vigilant monitoring."

According to the statement, the London-based media outlet had used its “affiliated elements” inside Iran to steal the historical documents from the country’s official archive centers.

The Intelligence Ministry described the recent move by the TV channel, as violation of the international law and the media conventions and regulations.

By plotting to steal historical documents, the statement said, BBC Persian TV channel attempted to make up for its failures.

Further complementary information in this regard will be released in due time, the Intelligence Ministry reiterated.
