Spokesman: Iran Pursuing Kidnapped Soldier’s Fate in Pakistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is making efforts to shed light on the fate of Jamshid Danaeifar, an Iranian border guard kidnapped by a Pakistan-based terrorist group in February, Iranian interior ministry spokesman said.

“Pursuing Danaeifar’s case is on the agenda,” Hossein Ali Amiri told reporters here in Tehran on Monday.

He also called on the Pakistani government to cooperate and help determine what has happened to the Iranian border guard, saying, “We hope that the Pakistani government will cooperate to determine his fate.”

He emphasized that in Iran’s viewpoint, Pakistan has a responsibility to cooperate.

Jamshid Danaeifar, along with four other Iranian border guards, was kidnapped on February 6 by a Pakistani-based terrorist group named the Jaish-ul-Adl.

They were abducted in Jakigour region in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan and taken to Pakistan.

Four of the five border guards were released and returned home after being held hostage for two months. The fate of the fifth still remains unaccounted for.

On March 23, Jaish-ul-Adl announced in a Twitter message that it had killed Danaeifar but the terrorist group has provided no evidence to confirm its claim. The four released border guards said that Danaeifar had been separated from them for nearly a month.
