“The establishment of security in Afghanistan is important both for the country and its neighbors,” Larijani said during a meeting with Afghanistan's House Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi on the sidelines of the 131st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva on Tuesday.

He also touched upon recent developments in the region and stressed the need to promote Tehran-Kabul relations in all spheres.

Ibrahimi, for his part, said that the formation of a national unity government in Afghanistan was the outcome of the country’s election.

He also expressed the hope that after the new government’s establishment, Afghanistan’s relations with regional countries would further promote.

In a telephone conversation last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai explored avenues for boosting the two neighboring countries’ ties and cooperation.

President Rouhani voiced satisfaction over the establishment of the national unity government in Afghanistan, and called on all Afghan parties to remain committed to the agreement, the country’s territorial integrity, and Afghan nation’s interests.

On September 21, Afghanistan's rival presidential candidates, Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Abdullah Abdullah, signed a deal to share power after months of turmoil over a disputed election that had destabilized the nation.
