Spokeswoman Underlines Iran’s Good Relations with Turkey, Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s foreign policy is based on the improvement of good relations with its neighboring countries, including Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters in her weekly press conference in Tehran on Wednesday, Afkham commented on the age-old relations between Tehran and Anakara, saying, “Definitely, there are some differences of opinion but we have considered dialogue and cooperation as our principles.”

Answering a question about Iran-Saudi Arabia ties, she described the relations as “good”, but at the same time said, “As regards disagreements (between the two countries) on regional issues, we need tolerance and dialogue.”

“Good relations with the neighboring countries is the principle of our foreign policy and we hope that they (neighbors) will also take the same principle into consideration seriously,” Afkham said.

Commenting on the possibility of an official visit to Saudi Arabia by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the spokeswoman said up to now, no date has been set for the visit.

She added that Zarif is slated to pay an official visit to Spain next week and then plans to pay a visit to China to participate in a conference on Afghanistan due to be held on October 31 with foreign ministers from the regional countries in attendance.
