Iran Regrets Bahraini Regime’s Restrictions on Religious Practices

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s foreign ministry spokeswoman underlined Tehran’s discontent over Bahraini regime’s attacks on religious practices in the country.

Marziyeh Afkham on Monday regretted the Al Khalifa regime’s recent crackdown on religious practices in the tiny Persian Gulf country and said such moves will not build trust between Bahraini people and government.

She said such measures will only complicate the situation further.

Earlier, the Bahraini regime pulled downed the religious flags hoisted in streets near the Bahraini king’s palace.

Eyewitnesses said a large number of Bahraini security forces were deployed to the streets near the palace of Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to remove the signs and flags related to Muharram mourning processions.

In Muharram, Shiite Muslims perform mourning rituals to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of their third Imam, Hussein Ibn Ali (PBUH), and his companions.

Some Bahraini media sources released graphic footage showing that the regime forces are climbing poles in the “Sadad” district to pull down the religious flags, Bahrain Mirror reported on Sunday.

Earlier last week, the Bahraini regime forces arrested a number of young people on Sitra Island and took them to an unknown place, reports said, adding that the detainees were doing preparation for the religious rites.

Eyewitnesses underlined that the detainees were only decorating the streets in preparation for the month of Muharram.
