Russia Considers Iran as Reliable Partner: Duma Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The visiting Chairman of Russia's State Duma Sergei Naryshkin described Tehran-Moscow ties as close and emphasized the need for joint efforts to promote bilateral relations in all spheres.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran on Monday, Naryshkin said, “Russia regards Iran as a reliable and promising partner, with which it can have close cooperation.” 

He also said that his two-day visit to Iran is aimed at deepening political and parliamentary relations between the two countries.

The Russian official also emphasized that Russia deems Iran as an effective factor behind the promotion of regional stability, adding that the two countries share common stances on most of key international issues of the day.

He also emphasized that expansion of the economic relations between Tehran and Moscow was among issues discussed in his Monday meeting with Larijani and said that trade ties in various areas, including oil, gas, agriculture and nuclear energy , are growing and they would serve the interests of the two countries. 

Earlier on Tuesday, Tehran and Moscow signed an agreement, guaranteed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on the construction of eight nuclear power units in Iran.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi and Rosatom CEO Sergei Kirienko inked the documents in Moscow, promoting the links in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy between the two countries.

According to the agreement, Russia is to construct eight pressurized water reactors “turn-key ready” in Iran. Four of them will be built at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
