Canada Under Fire for Drafting Anti-Iran UN Human Rights Resolution

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s envoy to the United Nations lashed out at Canada for proposing a “biased” resolution on the alleged human rights violations in Iran, saying such spiteful moves by certain countries damage the UN credibility.

Reacting to the Canada-proposed resolution on Tuesday, Gholam-Hossein Dehqani said Ottawa itself adopts double-standard policies toward human rights.

He also slammed as “politically-tainted” the resolution, and hit back at claims that Iran has violated human rights.

Dehqani said the evidence shows that Canada is not concerned about the issue of human rights and is not sincere in its claim of advocating human rights.

He was referring to the Ottawa government’s attitudes toward the Israeli crimes in a recent war on Gaza.

Canada’s refusal to react to the Israeli atrocities against Palestinians reveals the North American country’s lack of concern for human rights.

On November 19, a UN General Assembly committee passed a resolution on the human rights situation in Iran.
