Iran’s Basij Forces Carry Out SPIE with Special Rope (+Photos)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Fatehin (Conquerors) Special Unit of Iran’s Basij Force managed to carry out a military exercise using the Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction (SPIE) system with 14 personnel using a homegrown rope.

The well-trained personnel engaged in the exercise used a special rope that has been designed exclusively for the drill, Commander of the Fatehin Unit told the Tasnim News Agency, noting that the rope can even carry up to 24 personnel.

The SPIE system provides efficient and safe methods for inserting and evacuating personnel to and from specific targets in areas that do not permit a helicopter to land.

SPIE is usually used for the delivery (insertion) and the removal (extraction) of small teams, up to 12 personnel at one time to or from difficult terrains like a jungle, a river, the ocean, a rooftop or a mountaintop.
