Iranian MP Deplores Zionist Lobby’s Pressure on US in Nuclear Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker described the Zionist lobby’s pressure on the US in the nuclear talks between Tehran and world powers as serious and urged Washington to reconsider its stances if it seeks an agreement.

“As the Americans are under pressure from the Zionists and some regional parties, they (the Americans) naturally cannot make the required rational decision” Alaeddin Borujerdi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said in an interview with al-Alalm news network, adding that the Zionist lobby’s pressure is serious.

“It is now time for the Americans to reconsider their stances if they want a deal (on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program),” he went on to say.

The latest round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany) was held in Vienna, Austria, ahead of the self-imposed deadline of November 24.

The two sides decided to extend the marathon talks for seven more months.

Borujerdi referred to the Vienna talks as very tough and complicated and said while an (expected comprehensive) agreement was not reached, good steps were taken and a number of important agreements were made.

Iran and the sextet signed an interim nuclear deal on November 24, 2013, in the Swiss city of Geneva.

The Geneva deal (the Joint Plan of Action) came into effect in January and expired in July, when the parties decided to extend negotiations until November 24 in the hope of clinching a final deal that would end a decade of impasse over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program.
