Nuclear Talks’ Horizon Bright, Iran’s Velayati Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati drew a positive picture of the future of nuclear negotiations between Iran and world powers.

“Now that we are in the middle of the way in nuclear talks, the talks’ horizon is bright,” Velayati said Tuesday in a meeting in Tehran with Lapo Pistelli, Italy’s deputy minister of foreign affairs.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) have held talks at different levels over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

In their last round of talks before a November 24 deadline, the two sides wrapped up a week of closed-door intense nuclear negotiations in Vienna last Monday.

They aimed to tackle the remaining obstacles that exist in the way of reaching a final agreement.

At the end of the talks, the two sides decided to extend their discussions for seven more months. They also agreed that the interim deal they signed in the Swiss city of Geneva last November remain in place during the course of the negotiations until July 1, 2015.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Velayati referred to the long-time political and cultural ties between Iran and Italy and said relations between the two countries are growing.
