Led by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, the delegation was received at Mexico City airport by Head of the Mexican Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee Gabriela Cuevas Barrón.
This is the first official visit to Mexico by an Iranian parliamentary delegation in 35 years.
Boroujerdi, who is accompanied by lawmakers Mohammad Saleh Jokar and Fathollah Hosseini, said the visit to the Central American country came at the invitation of Cuevas Barrón.
He added that the Iranian delegation will meet with Mexican officials for talks on developing parliamentary cooperation, expanding bilateral ties and studying the latest international developments.
The Mexican Senate’s foreign relations committee president hailed the visit and described the Islamic Republic as an important and influential country in the Middle East.
Cuevas Barrón had travelled to Iran back in July this year. During her meetings with Iranian officials in Tehran, she called for the expansion of amicable relations with the Islamic Republic, particularly in economic, cultural and scientific fields.
The promotion of all-out cooperation with Latin American countries has been among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy over the past few years.
Tehran has close political and trade relations with Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia.
