Ashourzadeh Wins Gold in WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Farzan Ashourzadeh claimed a gold medal at the 2014 WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final on Wednesday.

In the male -58kg final match, Ashourzadeh defeated South Korea’s Tae-moon Cha 15-3 and claimed the gold medal.

“I am so happy,” said Ashourzadeh after receiving his medal. Asked how he had maintained his composure under fire, he replied simply, “I trained with a very good coach.”

Iran’s Farzan Ashourzadeh, Behnam Asbaghi, Mehdi Khodabakhshi and Sajjad Mardani have participated in the event which is underway in Queretaro, Mexico, drawing a total of 64 top athletes from 27 countries.

The participating teams are host Mexico, Korea, Russia, Iran, Germany, France, Cote d’Ivoire and the United States in the men’s division, while host Mexico, Korea, Russia, China, Colombia, France, Cote d’Ivoire and the United States participate in the female category.
