Iraq Can Play Key Role in Resolving Regional Problems: Rafsanjani

“Everyone knows that Iraq can play a valuable role in the settlement of issues in Syria and Lebanon,” Rafsanjani said in a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari in Tehran on Monday.

He called for concerted efforts by the regional countries to help Iraq in its fight against terrorism and said this cooperation would benefit Islam and Muslim governments.

“Certain countries in the region should be convinced that the ramifications of terrorism will affect the entire region,” Ayatollah Rafsanjani added.

He also referred to the importance of cooperation between the governments and parliaments of Iran and Iraq in the acceleration of development trend.

“The consolidation of relations between Tehran and Baghdad would lead to the reinforcement of ties between all countries in the region,” Rafsanjani underlined.

Al-Jaafari, for his part, said that almost all Arab countries have adopted a single approach in dealing with the ISIL threat and have voiced their readiness to cooperate with Iraq.

He also pointed to Iran’s experiences in dealing with terrorist groups and said that the two countries have a valuable opportunity to expand their cooperation against the current threats.

The Iraqi official arrived in Iran on Sunday heading a delegation to attend an international conference on the World Against Extremism and Violence (WAVE) in Tehran, opened this morning with the attendance of envoys from 40 countries.
