Iran Names National Day against Violence, Extremism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran named December 18 after the national day against violence and extremism as President Hassan Rounahi raised the idea of international day against violence.

The occasion was officially registered in the country’s calendar after a Tuesday decision made by Iran’s Supreme Council on the Cultural Revolution.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Rouhani proposed the idea of naming December 18 after the international day against violence in order to invigorate global determination for the fight against violence and extremism.

He gave the idea in the international conference on ‘World Against Violence and Extremism’ (WAVE) in Tehran.

On December 18, 2013, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly voted to approve President Rouhani’s WAVE proposal.
