Hamas Chief Likely to Visit Iran: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Khaled Mashaal, head of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) political bureau, is scheduled to pay a forthcoming visit to Iran, a Hamas official announced.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency in Tehran, head of Hamas movement’s foreign affairs Osama Hamdan, said Mashaal will definitely pay a visit to Iran, but did not provide more details on an exact date for the visit due to security concerns.

Not only Khaled Mashaal, but also all other Hamas leaders will travel to Iran because of the strong bonds between the two sides, Hamdan added.

A Hamas delegation, led by Muhammad Nasr, a member of the political bureau of the movement, arrived in Tehran on Monday. Hamdan is also a member of the visiting team.

He described the primary purpose of the delegation’s visit as expansion of Iran-Hamas ties, which he said have been in place for more than 25 years.
