TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday expressed the country's preparedness to cooperate with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and extremism, a day after gunmen attacked a school in Peshawar in which 132 students were killed.

In a condolence message to Nawaz Sharif, Rouhani condoles with the Pakistani prime minister over the “martyrdom of a large number of innocent Pakistani citizens.”

He said the attack once again showed that the tackling violence and extremism as well as uprooting terrorism "needs serious determination of the international community and the entire regional states."

He also expressed Tehran’s readiness to cooperate with Islamabad in fighting terrorism and extremism.

On Tuesday, at least 130 people, most of them students as young as 12, have been killed and over 122 others injured in a Taliban seizure of a military-run school in the city of Peshawar.

Several militants dressed in Pakistani military uniforms entered the school compound at around noon. They torched a car at the site and proceeded with a raid on the facility.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called the attack a 'national tragedy' and announced 3 days of mourning across the country.
