US Calls Nuclear Meetings with Iran in Geneva “Useful”

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The US State Department announced that the latest round of negotiations between Iran and six world powers in the Swiss city of Geneva over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program were “useful”.

“All of the meetings in Geneva were useful, including the bilateral and P5+1 meetings,” US State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, told reporters at a press briefing on Friday.

“There’s not more of a readout we’re going to offer than that,” she added. “It’s obviously set in a series of meetings.”

As regards the next round of the nuclear talks, she said, “Further meetings will take place in mid-January,” adding, “In terms of the exact dates, I think that’s still being finalized.”

Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) wrapped the latest round of talks on Wednesday.

The Swiss city will reportedly once again host the next round of talks before January 20, 2015.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) have decided to extend for more 7 months a self-imposed deadline for signing a comprehensive nuclear agreement.

The negotiations aim to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
