Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Mahdi Sanaei and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov in a meeting in Moscow discussed plans for the expansion of relations in the next year.

According to the diplomats, Tehran and Moscow will in 2015 take the necessary measures to simplify the exchange of Iranian rial and Russian rouble, and will open a joint account as well.

The two countries are also scheduled to ink a series of agreements, including treaties on visa regime, cultural cooperation and reciprocal investment.

On the agenda is also enhancement of cooperation between the two nations’ diplomatic bodies and signing an agreements on judiciary and insurance issues.

In September, Iran and Russia agreed to boost cooperation in the area of economy and use national currencies in bilateral trade.

Russia annually imports between 7 to 10 billion dollars’ worth of fruits and dried fruits mainly from European countries.

But with sanctions imposed by the US and EU on Russia over the developments in Ukraine, Moscow has introduced restrictions on fruit imports from European countries.

Tensions between Russia and the West heightened after Ukraine's Black Sea peninsula of Crimea joined the Russian Federation following a referendum in March.

Amid the developments, Russia considers Iran as an appropriate market for the import of agricultural products, including fruits and seafood.
