S. Korea Edges Oman in Asian Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – South Korea began its Asian Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Oman in Canberra on Saturday.

Cho Young-cheol scored in the first half stoppage time in a packed Canberra Stadium.

The win means both Australia and South Korea sit atop Group A on three points, with the Socceroos ahead on goal difference.

South Korea, one of the tournament favorites and World Cup semifinalists in 2002, last won the Asian Cup in 1960.

Australia beat Kuwait 4-1 in Melbourne on Friday.
