Iran’s Speaker: Nuclear Deal Possible if Parties Avoid Excuses

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined that reaching a final agreement between Iran and six world powers over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program is possible if negotiating parties avoid raising “unreal excuses”.

“As before, the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue (nuclear) negotiations by keeping its logical principles and norms,” Larijani said during a meeting with visiting Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic in Tehran on Monday.

“If there are no unreal excuses, (then) reaching an agreement will not be unexpected,” he added.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani described relations between Tehran and Zagreb as “good and age-old” and said the two countries have great potential which should be utilized to promote bilateral ties in the diverse areas, including politics, economy and industry.

Referring to the role of the Iranian and Croatian parliaments in boosting bilateral relations, Larijani voiced readiness of the Iranian parliament to help boost mutual cooperation between the two nations in all spheres.

The Croatian minister, for her part, voiced Zagreb’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with Tehran in the areas of mutual interest.

She also expressed the hope that Tehran’s nuclear issue would be settled through negotiating parties’ firm determination in a fair way that would ensure global peace and stability.

Pusic also stressed that Croatia, as a new member of the European Union, is ready to help progress in the nuclear talks.
