Rouhani: Iran to Continue Progress Irrespective of Threats, Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday reaffirmed that the nation has no fear of sanctions and threats and will overcome challenges and continue its path of progress.

“Iranian nation is not afraid of threat and sanctions, and will continue the path of country’s development and prosperity by staying united,” Rouhani said, addressing a congregation of Iranian people in the central city of Isfahan.

“Irrespective of all pressures and sanctions, this nation managed to send a new satellite into orbit,” he added, pointing to the recent successful launch of ‘Fajr’ satellite into space by Iranian scientists.

The Iranian president further deplored the claims raised by the West against Iran's nuclear program, and reiterated, "We need no atomic bomb."

The US, Israel and some of their allies falsely claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with Washington and the European Union using the unfounded claim as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions on Iran.

Tehran strongly rejects the allegation over its nuclear energy activities, saying that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
